Me and my left ankle

Ive had a weak left ankle since I was 15. I was jumping around on a trampoline on holiday and twisted my ankle, but it turned out to be more than a twist. After about 10 minuets I had a lump the size of  a large apple on the side of my ankle.

I was put in plaster cast for six weeks and told I had some ligament damage. Then I was given physiotherapy for a few weeks. I was still in pain but at that stage, but it was ok.

Then as the years have passed my left ankle has become the bane of my life - it gives way on me at such random times and it been driving me nuts.

As I've been using the pushchair for nearly 2 and half years I've become reliant on it for support and comfort, holing on for fear of going and if it does go on me its my stability and so now when I don't have the pushchair it will give way at any given time - even around the house on my wedding day.

Now that G is starting to walk by himself I'm getting worried - really worried as when it gives way I almost always fall over and having G's hand in mine I'm terrified of falling on him or pulling him to the ground with me.

I dread going out on my own ( with out pushchair or H to hold my hand ) the embarrassment is worse than the fall.

So after many years of embarrassment I've finally sort some help from my GP who has referred me to an ankle specialist ( I never knew there were such people )

Who knows what the future holds for me and my left ankle - I'm a little bit scared but so long as it gets sorted ..........

  3. Good luck. I have a weak left side due to my chronic fatigue syndrome. I also sprained my ankle but as it wasn't treated at the time I have problems. One of the exercises I was given was to stand on the bottom step with just your toes and part of the front of your foot on the step. This stretches the ligaments and strengthens the muscles. I have to use a walking stick as my left side will never be resolved due to my cfs. However the exercises mean I can use a stick and not a wheel chair. I hope you get the help and I'm sure they'll be able to sort you out.
